FAQ's

Q. Is the UK climate suitable for PV solar?

A. Panels require daylight rather than direct sunlight to begin producing electricity, so whilst they will obviously produce more electricity on long summer days, they will continue to work throughout the winter.

Q. How much can I earn by installing PV solar panels?

A. With the government backed clean energy cashback scheme fixed at its premium rate until April 2012, there has never been a better time to invest in PV solar. The only limiting factor to the amount you can earn is the suitable available space you have on your property to accommodate solar panels. Our expert surveyors at Sun Spirit will advise you, free of charge, as to the potential earning power of your property.

Q. What if I use the electricity generated from the panels within my property? Will I still get paid?

A. Yes! You are being paid to generate electricity from a renewable source. If you utilise this electricity as it is being generated you are actually benefiting both from the clean energy cashback scheme and from the additional savings against your electricity bill.

Q. Will solar panels fully replace my energy bills?

A. No, you will still require an energy provider to maintain a constant supply at times of peak use. However, by adhering to a few simple habit changes to maximise the use of your system, you will make exceptional savings on your household electricity bills.

Q. Do I require planning permision to install solar panels?

A. In most cases planning permission is not required. The exceptions may be if your property is a listed building or if you live in a conservation area or world heritage site.

Q. Do panels require any maintenance?

A. PV solar panels have no moving parts and so should not require any maintenance throughout their useful life. Panels have an anticipated lifespan of 25 years with a guarantee that they will maintain 80% efficiency in that timeframe, although it is likely they could last longer.
